The Russian Soyuz MS-17 spacecraft, which will travel to the International Space Station in October, will reach its destination in a record time of three hours and five minutes, according to NASA.

The launch of the spacecraft, with a crew consisting of the Russians Sergei Rizhikov and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov and the American Kathleen Rubins, is scheduled for 5:45 GMT on October 14, according to the mission calendar published by NASA. Just three hours and five minutes later, at 8:50 GMT, the ship will have docked at the ISS.

Typically, spacecraft take two days to reach the station after orbiting our planet 34 times.

Five Russian Progress cargo ships completed that journey in just three hours between 2018 and 2020.

Of the manned trips, the fastest was that of the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft that reached the ISS in 5 hours and 38 minutes in September 2017.

The director of the Russian space corporation Roscosmos, Dmitri Rogozin, promised last December that the Soyuz spacecraft trips to the ISS would soon be shorter than the flight from Moscow to Brussels.
