A turbine prototype that has just shattered the world record for wind power production

Haliade-X is not just a turbine anymore. It is a 260 meter monster with a 220 rotor capable of generating enough energy to power 16,000 homes. And it is not content to be the largest offshore wind turbine in the world, just sprayed the previous energy record in 24 hours262 Mwh during this weekend.

And that is just a prototype provisionally installed in the port of Rotterdam.

A huge monster in the largest port in Europe

We already talked about GE Renewable Energy’s 12 MW Haliade-X in March 2018 and we told you that the project was going to require an investment of about 400 million euros until 2021 when the final models will come out. We can already say it’s a success.

Right now, in addition to the port of Rotterdam, there is another Haliade-X at the ORE Catapult test center in the United Kingdom. However, it has already been included in several offshore wind farm projects such as the 120 MW Skip Jack, the 1,100 MW Ocean Wind both in the US and the 3,600 MW Dogger Bank project on the coast of England.

If all goes well and the prototype tests are positive, the first units will be released during the second half of 2021. However, this is only the first step: often hidden by the growth of solar energy, wind power is one of the great covers of the moment and the projects are increasingly large and excessive. These types of turbines have wind in favour.
