Just a few hours ago, Tesla introduced the Cybertruck electric pickup truck with an unusual design and high performance. The older version of the pickup truck will have three electric motors, will be able to drive on a single charge up to 805 kilometres and accelerate to 96.6 kilometres per hour in 2.9 seconds. The presentation was broadcast on Tesla’s YouTube channel.

Tesla is mainly known as a manufacturer of electric cars and crossovers aimed at a fairly wide range of buyers. However, in recent years the company has started to expand the range, introducing the electric truck Semi and sports car Roadster. In 2017, CEO Elon Musk said Tesla has been developing an electric pickup truck since the early 2010s.

At a presentation on November 21 in Los Angeles, Musk presented a production version of the electric pickup truck, called Cybertruck. The pickup has a retro-futuristic design reminiscent of the DeLorean DMC-12. The body of the machine consists of solid steel and acts as a frame. Musk said the body is strong enough to withstand a nine-millimetre bullet. Like other Tesla cars, Cybertruck has received the autopilot adaptive cruise control system autopilot. In addition, the car is equipped with adaptive air suspension, allowing to adjust the height of each axis for loading.

The car will come in three versions with one, two or three engines. At the same time, all versions will be four-wheel drive. Cybertruck batteries allow the pickup truck to drive 402, 483 or 805 miles, depending on the version. The older version of the pickup truck will be able to accelerate to 96.6 kilometres per hour (60 miles per hour) in 2.9 seconds. The cost of the car is 39.9, 49.9 or 69.9 thousand dollars, depending on the version. Production of pickup trucks will begin in late 2021.

Features of the three pickup versions

It is noteworthy that some owners of classic pickups with internal combustion engines have a very negative attitude towards electric cars in general and, in particular, to Tesla, which is considered one of the leaders in this field. Some of them even hold peculiar protests against the company, blocking Supercharger charging stations.

In addition to Tesla, several other companies introduced their electric pickups. For example, Ford plans to release an electric version of its popular Model F-150. In the summer of 2019, the company showed a working prototype of the F-150 electric pickup truck, towing with its help the freight train.
