Adobe introduced a new feature that will be available soon in new versions of the Photoshop photo editor. It allows you to select the image area, after which the program will independently determine the key object on it and select its contours. Previously, a similar function had already been added to the editor, however, it highlighted only key objects in the entire image, and not an arbitrary part selected by the user.
Many photo editors have several options for the highlight function. In addition to simply highlighting with a rectangle or an arbitrary shape, they also have more automated tools. For example, there is a function for selecting an area by colour or contrasting contours, as well as the semi-automatic exact selection, in which the user sets the points on the border of the selected area, but the line between them is laid down by the algorithm in accordance with the contours of the frame.
In 2017, Adobe showed a much more advanced version of the selection function, which allows you to select an object in the picture with one click. However, this function has a drawback: it itself determines the object or several objects that dominate the frame and does not allow you to point to specific objects or area.
In one of the newer versions of Photoshop, a feature to highlight specific objects will appear. The user can select an arbitrary area in the image in a convenient way for him, after which the computer vision algorithms will independently select objects and select them. The function has no restrictions on the size of the area, and also works even if small parts of the object go beyond the borders of the selected area.
This is not the first time Adobe has used computer vision algorithms in the new features of its programs. For example, earlier, the developers of the company taught Photoshop to realistically draw empty areas around the edges of the photo that are formed during rotation. In addition, since 2016, the program allows you to edit specific parts of facial expressions. And the Adobe After Effects video editor recently added the function of realistic removal of objects from the video and painting the background in their place.
