Spain offered to help Greta Thunberg get to the COP25 climate forum

Teresa Ribera, the current minister of Ministry of Environment (Spain) has invited Swedish activist Greta Thunberg to help cross the Atlantic to get to the COP25 climate forum in Madrid, Politico writes on Saturday.

“It would be great to meet you here in Madrid … We would like to help you cross the Atlantic. We are ready to contact you to make this possible,” Ribera said in a statement.

Thunberg tweeted asking for help. “I think I’ve driven half the world in vain. Now I need to find a way to cross the Atlantic in November. If anyone can help me find transport, I’ll be very grateful,” she said.

It was previously planned that the summit would be hosted by Chile, but this week, President Sebastián Piñera announced that the state would not be able to host the event. Therefore, COP25 has been transferred to Madrid. As of now, Thunberg is in the USA.

Activities of Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old Swedish girl, has been widely known over the past year. She was invited to international organizations, in particular, at the UN. She actively advocates for the environment and calls for immediate, decisive action to tackle climate change.

To draw public attention to climate-related issues, Thunberg began to go to the Swedish parliament instead of school on Fridays, demanding active measures from the authorities to protect the environment. Gradually, her solitary action found support in other countries of the world and grew into a movement of schoolchildren and students requiring action to prevent global warming.

Tunberg is supported by many politicians and celebrities. UN Secretary-General António Guterres and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger met with her.

In September of this year, she spoke at the UN, accusing world leaders of the fact that they, without taking measures to protect the climate, “stole” her “dreams and childhood.”
