The Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia called for interrogation of the former TV presenter of the Rustavi 2 television station, George Gabuniya, in the case of embezzlement of the channel’s money, reports RIA Novosti.

The interrogation is scheduled for October 7. On Saturday, October 5, the former head of the TV channel’s information department, Nodar Meladze, will be interrogated in the same case. The case has already been interrogated by the former head of the TV channel’s information service, Giorgi Laperashvili, and ex-TV presenter, now a member of the United National Movement opposition party, Zaal Udumashvili, TASS writes.

The Rustavi 2 TV channel was at the center of a political scandal after Gabunia sweared on Putin on July 7 on the air of the PS program. After that, hundreds of Tbilisi residents came to the building of the TV channel and demanded the dismissal of Gabunia and the then general director Nikoloz Guaramia. 

The leadership of the channel did not dismiss the journalist, removing him from work for two months. Rustavi 2 officially refused to apologize. On August 20, the general director of the TV channel Paata Salia spoke about the dismissal of Gabunia, producer Georgy Laperashvili and other employees of the channel.

In the case of the appropriation of money, “Rustavi 2” as the accused is his former general director Gvaramiya. He is accused of intentionally damaging the channel in the amount of more than $ 2 million. 

According to investigators, in January 2015, Guaramia drew up an agreement with Intermedia Plus, owned by his friends. According to the contract channel conceded the company the right to place advertising on the channels of “Comedy Channel ” and “Mara” ( “Rustavi 2” belong to). The prosecutor’s office believes that as a result of the actions of Guaramia, the TV channel suffered damage of more than $ 2 million.
