Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov called it difficult to explain what is happening in the United States, including the bill on sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Russian authorities for alleged collusion with the Taliban.

For his part, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said his country frequently urges Russia to stop engaging in the sale of small arms that put Americans at risk in Afghanistan.

“The Russians have been selling small arms that put Americans at risk there [in Afghanistan] for ten years. We have opposed that …” Pompeo said.

US Senator Robert Menendez presented a document to include in the annual Defense spending law sanctions against President Putin and Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu for the alleged rewards offered by Russia in exchange for attacks against US soldiers in Afghanistan.

Trump said that neither he nor Vice President Mike Pence received a report on the matter because US intelligence agencies explained that the allegations were neither confirmed nor substantiated.

The president called the NYT article another attempt to trick Republicans into looking bad in an election year.

Russian officials denied the allegations and called them part of the internal political struggle in the United States.

Meanwhile, Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and Hasan Rohani of Iran held a videoconference on Syria on July 1.

According to the final statement after the telecast, the presidents agreed to strengthen coordination on the crisis in Syria. They expressed serious concern about the humanitarian situation in Syria. Among other things, the statement says leaders “consider Israeli attacks in Syria destabilizing that violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and increase tensions in the region.”

Vladimir Putin called on his Iranian and Turkish counterparts to join forces to help the Syrian government amid US sanctions. According to the Russian leader, not all decisions on Syria have yet been implemented, but the efforts of the three countries yield tangible results.

“Russia, Turkey and Iran will be able to do a lot together in the field of restoring Syria’s economy and social sphere, as well as for the return of refugees to the country. According to the UN World Food Program, the Half of the Syrian population, or more than 9 million people, needs food assistance, despite this and the appeal of the United Nations Secretary-General to ease sanctions following the pandemic, Washington and Brussels made the decision to extend restrictions against Damascus,” declared the Russian president.

The solution to the crisis is sought on two platforms, that of Geneva, under the auspices of the UN, and that of Astana, co-sponsored by Russia, Turkey and Iran.

Meanwhile, Russia chose to stop participating in the United Nations mechanism for the suppression of conflicts in northwestern Syria because terrorists abused its implementation, said the Moscow ambassador to the organization, Vasili Nebenzia.

“Our own investigation proved that some of the de-escalation zones were, in fact, used as the headquarters of the terrorists, or hiding places, and thus cannot be granted them humanitarian status,” said the diplomat during a meeting of the Council of Security.

In turn, the UN shares the coordinates with the coalition led by the US, Russia and Turkey, with the aim of protecting civilian establishments from possible attacks.

In August last year, UN Secretary-General António Guterres launched an internal investigation to analyze attacks on civilian settlements in north-western Syria.

Political scientist Yuri Svetov commented on the situation:

“Our exit from that structure is correct. Furthermore, we do not cease the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria. Likewise, the Russian military police are active there, helping to separate the parties, to protect the civilian population. While the Americans will always condemn those who do not play the game,” concluded Yuri Svetov.

Meanwhile, former Chancellor of Germany, chairman of the board of Rosneft, Gerhard Schroder, believes that US sanctions against Nord Stream 2 is the deliberate purpose of the transatlantic partnership, writes Handelsblatt citing the position of Schroder for open hearings of the Committee of Economy and Energy of the Bundestag (German Parliament).

The committee is scheduled to hold hearings to discuss new US sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and the energy sovereignty of Europe and Germany.

According to the former chancellor, the financial consequences of the sanctions would be extremely serious.

The construction of the Nord Stream 2, promoted by an alliance of companies from Russia, Germany, Austria, France and the Netherlands, was suspended in December 2019 after Washington threatened sanctions against the Swiss company Allseas, which was carrying out the works.

They oppose the new US gas pipeline, which seeks to sell liquefied natural gas from its shale fields to Europe, and some European countries such as Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.

In another order, the holding of the European Union-China summit and the continuation of the dialogue with Beijing constitute important axes of the activity of the European Union, declared the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, in a press conference offered on the occasion of the start, in the second semester, of his country’s presidency in the European Union.

Human rights, social problems, investor defense, trade relations and climate change are the axes on which, according to the German chancellor, the interaction with China will be continued. Relations with China have strategic significance and must be based on mutual trust, said the German chancellor.

Russian political scientist Vladislav Belov, deputy director of the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences noted:

“Berlin and the EU are not going to remove the Hong Kong problem from the agenda in the six months that follow. However, Germany and Brussels have been decisive in their position, namely that they are not going to adopt sanctions against China because of the Hong Kong issue. China is a very difficult partner for the EU, but Brussels has successfully organized relations with Beijing, something that Washington and, specifically, Trump have not achieved,” Belov said.

In addition, the Russian embassy in Libya will resume its activities, he announced the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the meeting on 3 July in Moscow with President of the Libyan Parliament which meets in Tobruk, Aguila Saleh.
