Former US Vice President Joe Biden endorsed the assassination of the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Major General Qasem Soleimani by the US forces in Iraq but he warned that the action would exacerbate the situation in the region.

“President Trump has just thrown a dynamite bomb into a barrel of gunpowder, and he must explain to the American people the strategy and plan to ensure the security of our troops and embassy staff, our people and our interests, both here, at home and abroad, as well as our partners across the region and beyond”, said Biden, who is one of the Democratic presidential candidates.

Democratic Senator Chris Murphy tweeted: “Suleimani was the enemy of the United States. This is not a question. The question is: did America just kill the second most powerful man in Iran without the consent of Congress, deliberately unleashing a potential major regional war?”

At the same time, Senator Lindsay Graham endorsed the U.S. actions and thanked President Donald Trump, who ordered the attack, for his determination.

“I appreciate President Donald Trump’s bold actions against Iranian aggression. To the Iranian government: if you want more, you will get more”, he tweeted.
The senator added; “Thank you, Mr President, for standing up for America“.

General Suleimani was reportedly killed in a rocket attack at Baghdad International Airport. The operation to destroy it in Iraq was carried out by the U.S. military at the behest of President Donald Trump, the Pentagon said.

“The US Armed Forces, in accordance with the president’s instructions, resolutely carried out defensive actions, destroying the head of the listed terrorist organizations Qasem Suleymani’s unit in the defense of foreign personnel of the United States”, the US military said in a statement.
