USA surpasses Spain as the second country with the most deaths due to COVID-19

The United States has overtaken Spain on Wednesday as the second country in the world with the most deaths from Covid-19 with 14,817, just behind Italy, which has 17,669, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University. Given the data, Trump, who had pointed to April 30 as the end of the crisis, now says he does not want to venture out to give a day: “I don’t like giving dates.

The North American country has reached 14,817 after adding almost 2,000 new deaths in the last 24 hours, while Spain has recorded 14,792, 25 fewer.

More than half of the deceased – some 8,100- are concentrated in the New York area (New York states, New Jersey and Connecticut), the great epicenter of the coronavirus in the United States. In New York City alone, 4,571 people have died.

Michigan with 959 deaths, Louisiana with 652, California with 505, Illinois with 462, Massachusetts with 433 and Washington state with 431 groups the majority of the deceased outside the New York area.

As for Covid-19 infections, the United States continues as the country in the world with the most confirmed cases, reaching 432,132 on Wednesday after adding almost 32,000 in the last 24 hours.

They are almost triple that of Spain and Italy, second and third with 148,220 and 139,422, respectively.

Again, the New York area concentrates the majority of confirmed cases with more than 200,000, while Michigan has exceeded 20,000 this Wednesday, California 18,000, Louisiana 17,000 and Massachusetts and Pennsylvania 16,000.

Of all those infected, only about 22,900 have been discharged to date, while some 9,300 are admitted to intensive care units.

Throughout the country, where some 328 million inhabitants live, more than 2.2 million coronavirus tests have already been carried out at a rate of more than 100,000 daily.

Close to 90% of that population lives in areas with confinement orders and the Donald Trump government has promoted measures to stop the virus from spreading until at least April 30.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has again criticized the World Health Organization (WHO), insisting on the supposed “relationship” that it has with China. “I can’t believe I’m talking about politics when you look at the relationship they have with China,” Trump said in relation to the words of WHO Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who asked not to seek “political benefits” using the pandemic thus responding to the tycoon’s attacks.

China spends 42 million, we spend 450 and everything seems to be as China says. That is not right, it is not fair to us and, honestly, it is not fair to the world,” Trump continued during the briefing held on Wednesday in the White House.

The criticism of the agency has not finished there, as Trump has hinted that the death toll could have been lower if WHO had analyzed the situation correctly.

“I think when he talks about more body bags, I think we would have done and he would have been serving the people he is supposed to serve much better if they had given a correct analysis,” he suggested.
