The best alternative to the Google translator for Windows and macOS

DeepL - The Best Translator and alternative to the google translator

It is one of the best alternative to google translators we can find on the net. The main reason is that it is one of the few capable of analyzing the text through convolution neural networks, instead of the concurrent neural networks used, for example, by Google Translator. Thanks to this technology and the use of its own multi-language dictionary, Linguee DeepL offers quite good results, analyzing the context of the text to be translated accurately.

To date, it was necessary to use the DeepL website to achieve our translation purpose, but since yesterday the company has a program for Windows and macOS, completely free although, yes, still in beta. However, we have been able to prove it, and we already anticipate that the operation is as expected, all good.

This is how the DeepL program works

In our case, we have tested DeepL its website, but the version for Windows is identical at the level of operation. The first thing is to download it from the DeepL page, and install it on your computer. At the interface level it is a minimal program, but it fulfills its mission.

We find a first box in which we must enter the text to be translated, and a box just below where that translation will be shown. So far, one might think that the DeepL program is nothing more than quick access to the service, but the good news comes at the level of integration with the system.

Just by pressing Ctrl + C (or ⌘C in macOS), the text is automatically pasted and translated into the program, so it is not necessary to copy the text, open the interface and copy it, it is done automatically. In fact, you can have the program closed, and it will open on its own when performing this action.

The main limitation that we find with DeepL is that it only has support for eight languages, specifically, they are the ones listed below.

  • Spanish
  • English
  • German
  • Portuguese
  • Italian
  • Dutch
  • Polish
  • Russian

However, the accuracy of the translations is excellent, and better than Google Translator.

As we anticipated, the program is still in beta, but its operation is more than correct, and we recommend having it installed for quick translations. Like any translator, it is subject to errors, but it remains one of the most accurate tools when it comes to achieving this task.
