Users of Xiaomi smartphones can again download the alternative Android operating system Lineage OS for their devices. This reports XDA Developers, citing the makers of Lineage OS. The Android ROM was temporarily not available for Xiaomi smartphones due to a lawsuit.

The reason was the complaint of the Chinese company Sensetime. Sensetime sells facial recognition software and filed an injunction against the makers of Lineage OS. The source code is said to have been a repository that should have used proprietary device drivers. In the builds for Xiaomi devices, the drivers of Sensetime should not have been used, but they were in the source code.

Code has been removed

Accordingly, the makers of Lineage OS had taken the Xiaomi branch of its operating system offline and searched for an alternative. Meanwhile, the programmers were able to free the ROMs from the source code, according to the Sensetime has violated the copyright of the company.

First, the builds are available, which had removed the makers of Lineage OS on August 9, 2019. In the next few days also updated versions will be made available. The affected devices include the Pocophone, the Mi Note 3, the Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2 and Mi Mix 2s as well as the Mi 8.
