The Vodafone 5G ESL Mobile Open will start on 31 May to close on 29 September. The tournament is born from the partnership signed between the operator and the Electronic Sports League, presenting itself as the first event of its kind with a final that will be played live on 5G networks. Participating players from the 17 countries in which the company operates, dealing with two mobile titles, Asphalt 9: Legends and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

The qualification stages will take place either online, using any compatible Android or iOS device, or with events held in Birmingham (England) and Cologne (Germany). The last matches will go on stage live in the frame of the Milan Games Week scheduled for the beginning of autumn. 5G, eSports and cloud gaming
The advent of 5G will enable new ways of using the games not only for multiplayer but also for cloud gaming platforms such as Google’s Stadia or Microsoft xCloud. In addition to bandwidth, latency will be determined: minimized lag will be essential to provide an experience free of slowdowns or delays in command execution. Furthermore, the consumption of data will inevitably have to be taken into account.
