Versioning GitLab 11.10 controls merge request pipelines

Published on

The creators of GitLab have released Version 11.10 of the version management, which, like the previous release, mainly brings innovations for customers of commercial variants. Now, you can see the status of pipelines in the Operations Dashboard, and developers can spot problems in Merge Request pipelines.

Introduced in GitLab 11.5 Operations Dashboard is now no longer the Ultimate or Gold variant reserved, but also included in the Premium Release and Silver offer. It provides a project overview of the entire GitLab instance. Recently it indicates the status of pipelines. Developers can put the pipelines of the relevant projects together in an overview.

Another innovation relates to the merge request pipelines (MR pipelines). You will now automatically create a new reference containing a merge result of a Source and a Target Branch. This should ensure developers that there are no conflicts in the merge. Finally, it is quite possible that the build of the Source and Target Branch will each be flawless, but code changes will cause incompatibilities between the branches that cause errors in the merge.

Also reserved for the Premium and Ultimate editions or Silver and Gold versions are the so-called Scoped Labels. These are mutually exclusive identifiers for, among other things, merge requests or issues that restrict the scope, for example, to individual platforms or the workflow status.

Scoped labels are a combination of tagging and tagging, so a multiplatform project can use the labels platform :: Linux , platform :: iOS, and platform :: Androidto identify issues for specific target platforms. For workflows, an issue marked workflow :: development can be changed to the next step by setting workflow :: review , which automatically removes the old label.

Since GitLab 11.6, developers can suggest changes to merge requests based on individual lines. With the current release you can also comment on several lines accordingly. Other users with write permissions to the source branch can accept the changes with one click. Like the individual line suggestions, the new feature is part of all GitLab editions, including the free core or free version.

Due to the innovation for the MR pipelines, developers need to update the GitLab Runners to version 11.9 or later. GitLab is available both as Software as a Service (SaaS) on GitLab.com and for use in the data center.
