Saharan dust and sand will produce rare atmospheric events.

The Sahara is sending massive volumes of dust and sand to Europe. Spain, France, and Germany, in particular, have observed high quantities.

Saharan dust particles will wash away the rain in the Czech Republic during the night on Wednesday, according to meteorologist Dagmar Honsová.

The dust from the world’s largest desert makes the rain crimson and settles on windows and cars as red dust.

“In addition to the deteriorating air quality and turbidity of the sky, dust particles in the air bring intensely colored twilight phenomena colored orange and red,” meteorologist Dagmar Honsová told Novinka. – translated-

Dust particles will wash away heavy rain from the air. In Germany, it should start raining as early as Tuesday morning, in the southwest, and the precipitation will gradually move to the east. 

“It should start raining on Wednesday night in the Czech Republic. It should rain all over the Czech Republic and it will fall from two to 10 mm of precipitation, in the east up to around 15 mm,” said Honsová.

Beware of car paint

German meteorologists warn that due to the massive amount of dust and fine sand from the Sahara, the surfaces and rain turn red. 

“It will literally be a bloody rain, one of the heaviest in recent years,” warn German meteorologists. But motorists should be careful. If dust settles on their car, they should only let it wash, definitely not using a rag or brush. It would be the effect of sandpaper and they would scratch the varnish.

According to Honsová, dust from the Sahara or the northern coast of Africa reaches the Czech Republic in the upper atmosphere several times a year. For example, last September or February, when there was orange snow in the mountains.

It was similar in April 2009, April 2019, April 2020, May 2020 or June of the same year. Dust from Ukraine can also reach the Czech Republic, such as March 24, 2007. According to foreign studies, up to 60,000 tons of dust reach Central Europe each year.

Now a cloud of Saharan dust is also over the Atlantic, reaching as far as South America.
