When Canadian sharpshooter ‘Wali’ landed in Ukraine to battle the Russians, the invaders realized they needed to use their propaganda arm to scare their troops.
A soldier of his caliber can make a significant difference in the fight against Russia, particularly against less experienced soldiers who are unwilling to fight.
There was a rumor that ‘Wali’ didn’t even last a single day of combat, but the man himself debunked the claim on Tuesday. Canadian journalist Ashleigh Stewart of Global News was able to track down the Canadian war hero and have an interview with him in which he describes everything he has gone through since arriving in the nation to battle Russians.
‘Wali,’ it turns out, did not die; he simply went dark for security reasons.
“I was the last person to learn the news that I was dead,” Wali says.

“I don’t understand why they push such lies. It’s pretty obvious because after a few days I’m popping out and telling everyone I’m alive.”https://t.co/PS4pF66Vbu
This is what ‘Wali’ had to say about his death rumors: “I was the last person to learn the news that I was dead. I think it’s just trolling. But I think it’s strange because after a while the enemy will lose credibility with this propaganda. I don’t understand why they push such lies. It’s pretty obvious because after a few days I’m popping out and telling everyone I’m alive. This war is like playing chess without knowing what the other pawns are. You know a bit but not enough. We got engaged with the Russians in very close distance, like 50 metres, and at that point they knew we were there. I was in a house where they shot the room right beside me with shells from a tank, I was about three metres away. We were lucky. Now I know how it feels to be engaged by a tank. I’m just a normal soldier. I’m a good soldier, no doubt about it. But I’m a good soldier among other good soldiers. Maybe the next time [the Russians] say that I’m dead it might be true but no one will believe them.”

How has the war been for “Wali”?
What astonished ‘Wali’ the most was the fact that, contrary to popular assumption, Ukraine still has a lot of great places to stay. Despite the fact that conflict zones have been entirely destroyed and have no services, there are still several suburbs with everything to enjoy. For a few nights, he slept in a lovely condo in Kyiv, where he drank darn good coffee from an espresso machine.
Another part of the situation that surprises ‘Wali’ is the Russians’ lack of preparedness in comparison to NATO soldiers. He’s observed the difference in equipment between European forces and Russia, which is a poor country with outdated weapons that still function but aren’t as advanced as his own sniper rifle.
