Fans of the epic 2001 A Space Odyssey can rejoice: an object similar to the monoliths shown in the film has been found on Earth.

An unusual metal artifact was discovered by the Utah Department of Public Safety officials during a routine flyby.

The Utah Department of Public Safety officials spotted an “unusual” object while flying over a desert in Utah to count sheep. This finding prompted several Internet users to speculate about its extraterrestrial origin.

This monolith-like object was discovered among the red rock and reaches more than 3.5 meters in height.

“This has been the strangest thing I have come across out there in all my years of flying,” explained helicopter pilot Bret Hutchings.

The man assumed that the monolith could have been installed by “some new wave artist”, or a fan of the famous science fiction movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. In that film directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on the script by novelist Arthur C. Clarke, there are imposing black monoliths created by an invisible alien species.

The uncertainty prompted several Twitter users to speculate about the origin of this object, who alluded to its extraterrestrial nature.

“I think they left something,” commented @ GeneSim54132213 accompanying his tweet with the gif in which a UFO can be seen.

“Right now, there’s a seriously pissed off alien screaming at their partner for not checking to make sure they didn’t leave anything behind when they filmed their YouTube travel show,” @RinzenLhamo quipped.

There were also those who remembered how disastrous 2020 has been.

“Well, after everything that has happened this year, 2020 ends with an alien invasion,” joked @ rellik68.

Be that as it may, the Utah Department of Public Safety Air Office recalled that “it is illegal to install structures or pieces of art without authorization” on federally administered public lands, “regardless of which planet” the author comes from.

The entity has not revealed the exact location of the monolith, to prevent some people from trying to find it and “being stranded.”
