A team of scientists have developed a device, called Diagnovir, which can detect the virus that causes COVID-19 infection in just 10 seconds.

The technology is based on the analysis of saliva from the patient’s oral cavity.

sample of the patient’s saliva is mixed with a special solution and placed in the device. If the biosensor detects the presence of a pathogen, the luminescence of the optical system changes, explains the statement from Bilkent University.

“Unlike the commonly used PCR tests, the system is not based on sample replication, but on detecting the presence or absence of the virus with advanced optical methods,” says the publication.

The system, developed by Bilkent Holding and E-A Technology, uses optical and electronic modules that provide accurate detection of 99% success.

Turkish researchers hope that its development will contribute to the fight against the pandemic.

Although the purpose of the system is to detect the new coronavirus, it can be used to detect various pathogens in future studies.
