The coffee you drink may reveal aspects of your personality – says a former police detective

A human behavioural specialist claims that looking at someone’s favorite coffee order can reveal their personality, but what does yours reveal about you?

If you enjoy a cup of coffee, you most likely have a go-to order that you order every time you visit your local coffee shop.

But did you know that every time you recite that order, you’re revealing sensitive information about yourself?

That’s according to Darren Stanton, a human behavioral expert, former police investigator, and psychologist, who claims that each of our coffee orders has a deeper meaning.

Darren talked to Delish about what each sort of coffee implies to the person who drinks it, so what does yours say about you?

People who drink Black coffee

A black coffee, also known as an Americano, is one of the simplest drinks to order at any coffee shop because you won’t have to worry about which type of milk you want.

And, according to Darren, if you prefer a black coffee’s straightforward approach, you’re definitely someone who is resolute, focused, and driven.

However, according to the expert, a black coffee drinker’s ambition can drive them to be “self-sufficient and empowered,” which can lead to them “having a selfish mentality.”

What about Latte people

Although coffee provides us with a caffeine boost, don’t expect latte drinkers to be hyperactive; in fact, according to Darren, they’re the most laid-back of all coffee drinkers.

A “middle-of-the-road” personality that avoids taking risks, according to the expert, is more likely to be a latte drinker.

He added: “Latte drinkers tend to be mild-mannered, agreeable, happy to go with the flow. They just want something simple to drink without complication.”

Who order Cappuccino

The cappuccino is a more adventurous drink than a latte, and it makes individuals who drink it more “fun.”

According to Darren, coffee drinkers aren’t afraid of new experiences, thus they’re open-minded and willing to try new things.

Who like Espresso most

Anyone who walks into a coffee shop and orders a single or double shot of espresso, like their black coffee drinking pals, is usually a “no-nonsense, straight-talking” type of guy, according to Darren.

According to the expert, buying an espresso shows that a person is “adventurous and powerful” and “strong in character,” and that they’re also likely to purchase a shot of whiskey or rum in a pub.

Who order Mocha most

The mocha is “probably the cutest of all coffees,” combining the refinement of coffee with the sweetness of chocolate.

Darren thinks anyone who enjoys a mocha is “very extroverted, outgoing, flamboyant, and potentially quite loud” – and friends probably call them the life of the party.

Flat white Lovers

If mocha drinkers are carefree, flat white drinkers are the polar opposite: according to Darren, this drink is most popular among coffee snobs who like the “acquired taste” of the powerful beverage.

He said: “The flat white is a much stronger coffee and a more acquired taste. People who order flat whites could perhaps be loners. They’d stand by their opinions no matter what and have clear views on particularly spiky subjects.”

Cortado drinkers, according to the expert, are “educated,” but they also prefer following rules and having order in their lives.

Syrups drinkers

Darren argues that those of us who like a hint of sweetness in our coffee are more likely to be “trustworthy” and “creative” since we like to mix things up with our coffee orders.

Those who put syrup in their coffee, according to the expert, are “happy to experiment” with novel flavors.
