“Interesting” results were revealed by the investigation conducted by Metropoll in Turkey regarding the war in Ukraine, write the country’s media.

84% of Turkish people do not approve of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but almost half the population blames the US and NATO for this invasion.

83.8% disapprove

More specifically, according to a survey conducted by Metropoll Research in March, 83.8% of Turks “disapproved” of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, while only 12.2% “justified” it.

However, citizens who do not approve of the Russian invasion blame the US and NATO for it. The percentage of those who hold the US-NATO responsible for the invasion is 48.3%, while the percentage of those who hold Russia responsible is 33.7%.

Rates of support for the Russian occupation are rising among voters of right-wing parties, most notably the far-right MHP (Nationalist Movement Party) of Devlet Bahceli and the nationalist, Kemalist and secular IYI Party (Good Party) of Meral Aksener.

Overwhelming support in Ukraine

According to the results of the poll posted by the head of the company, Ozer Senkar, on his Twitter account, the support for Ukraine is overwhelming among the voters of all parties.

In addition, most support for Russia comes from right-wing voters.

In particular, the majority of IYI Party and MHP voters justify Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Also, 27.7% of the MHP, 21.1% of the IYI party and 14.6% of the AKP (Erdogan’s ruling party) support Russia. This percentage is 5.5% in the CHP (Kemal Kilicdaroglu’s Republican People’s Party) and 8% in the HDP (pro-Kurdish left party).

Responsibilities in the US and NATO

While the vast majority disapprove of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, half the people blame the US and NATO for the war.

The percentage of those who hold the US-NATO responsible for the invasion is 48.3%, while the percentage of those who hold Russia responsible is 33.7%. 7% defended the view that Ukraine is responsible.

Considering the party voters, in particular, only the voters of Ali Babacan’s DEVA (Medicine)’s former Economy and Foreign Minister’s Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the small Islamist party Prime Minister Ne Nechirp and Felicity argue that Russia is more responsible than the US and NATO.

Taking into account the voters of the parties, in particular, only the voters of Ali Babacan, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the small Islamic party Felicity (former Vice President and Prime Minister of Turkey Necmettin Erbakan) argue that Russia is more responsible by the US and NATO.

MHP and The Good Party…

Most MHP and Iyi Parti voters believe the US-NATO is responsible for the war. 68.2% of MHP voters and 67% of Iyi Parti voters blame the US and NATO for the war.

CHP voters stressed the responsibility of the US-NATO at 48.2% against 41.7%. 38.1% of HDP voters blamed Russia and 38.6% blamed the US-NATO.

The HDP voters were the group with the highest turnout in Ukraine at 10.2%.

AKP voters, on the other hand, blamed Russia 30.5%, US-NATO 48.8% and Ukraine 9.2% for the invasion.
