Video Shows Iranian Missile Attacks Target Resembling Israeli Nuclear Plant

The Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center, located in the midst of the Negev desert, is believed of being the genesis of Israel’s nuclear weapons.

Tel Aviv maintains a strategy of ‘deliberate ambiguity,’ in which it neither admits nor denies having nuclear weapons, while threatening to unleash hellfire on any Middle Eastern country suspected of seeking such weapons.

The broadcast of a new video showing the destruction of a mock-up facility that looks remarkably similar to the Dimona nuclear research complex has sparked “a dangerous escalation in rhetoric,” according to The Jerusalem Post.

A video from the recently held Great Prophet 17 war games portraying an attack on a mock-up nuclear plant, mixed with a satellite image of Dimona, was uploaded on Saturday by IMA Media, an Iran-based social media outlet.

The video, captioned “Attack on the Zionist regime’s weapons of mass destruction center during TheGreatProphet17 war games,” shows a swarm of suicide drones and missiles crashing into the facility’s structures one by one before being turned into a blazing pile of debris by rockets.

JPost author Seth J. Frantzman commented on the clip, calling it “a new level of Iranian aggressive threats,” and claiming that IMA Media is tied to the Iranian government because the video was republished by the semi-official Fars and Tasnim news agencies.

The final phase of the Great Prophet 17 drills involved the simultaneous launch of 16 short and medium-range ballistic missiles, as well as the deployment of Shahed 136 suicide drones with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers, against an unspecified ground target, according to Iranian officials and media.

Frantzman warned that the “use of small kamikaze long-range drones combined with ballistic missiles, as illustrated by the recent drill and videos, represents yet another combination of dangerous munitions,” citing Western media reports claiming that Yemen’s Houthi militia used similar drones against Saudi Arabia and unverified Israeli allegations that Iran has exported its unmanned aerial vehicles to allies across the Middle East.

The video’s implications for the Vienna nuclear talks are most worrying, according to the JPost writer, with the video allegedly aimed “to indicate that [Tehran] retains this military option alongside the talks, with no fears of consequences over its threats.”

In recent months, Israel has threatened to attack Iran, citing a continuing deadlock between Tehran and Washington over the nuclear deal, with media reporting in October on the approval of a special $1.5 billion Israel Defense Force budget for a strike against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear facilities.

In response to these warnings, Iranian officials have suggested that Tel Aviv put aside “tens of thousands of billions of dollars” to restore the damage caused “by Iran’s shocking response” to any invasion.

Israel’s media has expressed alarm over the repercussions of a prospective strike on Dimona several times this year, and the video is not the first instance of this.

When a rogue Syrian S-200 anti-aircraft missile snuck into Israeli territory and detonated 40 kilometers from a nuclear site, the IDF initiated an investigation to determine why its air defenses failed to stop it.

The missile was launched in response to an Israeli missile attack near Damascus, which Syrian air defense soldiers repelled.

Benny Gantz, the Israeli Defense Minister, expressed surprise at the missile’s presence, adding that “normally we see a different outcome.”

Israel began building of the Dimona nuclear plant in the late 1950s, allegedly with the assistance of France, and the project proceeded outside the regulatory and inspection system of the International Atomic Energy Agency.

During the Six-Day War of June 1967, Israel gathered up to 13 nuclear bombs, according to US intelligence. Production of nuclear bombs began at the site in the mid-1960s. As recently as 2007, Israeli journalists claimed that the Soviet Union had a plan to bomb Dimona during the Second World War.

According to various estimates, Israel has between 80 and 400 nuclear bombs in its current arsenal. The Jewish State of Israel will not acknowledge or deny its nuclear weapons program.

For decades, Tel Aviv has claimed that Iran is secretly developing nuclear weapons. With both of its supreme leaders opposing the creation and storage of any weapons of mass destruction, Tehran has rejected these accusations.

However, the Islamic Republic eliminated its chemical weapons stockpile in the mid-1990s despite the fact that Saddam Hussein’s forces routinely launched chemical warheads at Iranian troops and cities during the terrible Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988.
