NYT: US did not manage to pick up 50 prisoners with valuable data from Syria

The United States, due to the start of the Turkish military operation in Syria, did not have time to transfer about 50 terrorists of the “Islamic State” (banned in Russia) from prisons protected by Kurds. This was reported by The New York Times, citing sources. The publication explains that prisoners with valuable information were protected by the Coalition Forces of the Democratic Syria (SDS) coalition.

The interlocutors of the newspaper said that several hundred militants, taking advantage of the panic, escaped from a temporary detention center in the same region of Syria. Another 700 members of terrorist families also fled the camp for temporarily displaced persons in the north of the country. The publication lists prisons and detention centers in the cities of Ain Isa, Kobani, Hasek and Kamyshly. In total, there were about 11,000 people, including 9,000 Syrians and Iraqis, as well as 2,000 prisoners from about 50 countries whose authorities refused to repatriate them.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that Washington had taken out from Syria two particularly dangerous militants known as the Beatles (The Beatles). We are talking about the British Aleksande Koti and Al-Shafi Elshayhe. They are credited with reprisals against dozens of prisoners, including American journalists James Fowley and Stephen Sotloff.

On October 9, Turkey announced the launch of Operation Source of Peace in northern Syria. The purpose of the operation is to create a buffer zone there, which will become a protective belt for the Turkish border, Turkish authorities explained. According to Ankara’s plan, Syrian refugees will be able to return from Turkey. U.S. authorities later said that Turkey probably intended to expand the offensive further than originally planned. In this regard, the United States decided to evacuate 1,000 troops from Syria . Reuters later clarified that the Kurds had agreed with the Syrian authorities to deploy the Syrian military along the border with Turkey to thwart the Turkish operation.
