The Mexican ambassador in Argentina resigns after being accused of stealing a book

The Mexican ambassador to Argentina, Ricardo Valero, has resigned this Sunday from his post, citing “health reasons” after being accused of stealing a book.

The Mexican ambassador to Argentina, Ricardo Valero, has resigned from his position on Sunday on the grounds of “health reasons” after being accused of stealing a book.

This was communicated by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Roberto Velasco Álvarez, who added that Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard has accepted Valero’s resignation.

“Mr. Valero will continue his treatment with the support of his family. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico wishes him a speedy recovery,” Velasco said through his Twitter account.

After that message, Velasco has shared, at the request of the diplomat’s relatives, the average evaluation of Valero.

Valero was captured at the end of October by the security cameras of the El Ateneo de Buenos Aires bookstore allegedly subtracting a biography of the Italian Giacomo Casanova. In the images you can see Valero, 76, picking up the book and hiding it in the sheets of a newspaper.

Shortly after, he is intervened by several security guards of the establishment. The diplomat would have been arrested for stealing the book, which costs 590 Argentine pesos (8 euros).
