“It is very insincere to make such a broad generalization. There was a brilliant team of very experienced and loyal helpers to help them. Sadly, she and Harry weren’t willing to listen to anyone. And that’s the plain truth,” commented a source.
In 2018, it emerged that Queen Elizabeth II recruited her most trusted adviser, Samantha Cohen, to help Meghan prepare for her wedding and for royal life. Cohen took it upon herself to give the former actress regular tutoring sessions from royal etiquette to diplomatic protocol at Kensington Palace.
The queen had to personally convince Cohen, her deputy private secretary who had just resigned after working for the Royal Household for nearly 20 years, to stay and work for the couple.
“The queen gave Sam, her safest, most reliable pair of hands,” says a source. British media also clarifies that Harry and Meghan could choose 15 employees for their own communication office.
For her part, Meghan revealed in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that while the Queen had been personally ‘wonderful’, she had not received any guidance on how to behave as a member of royalty, forcing her to “Google the national anthem.“
“Unlike what you see in the movies, there is no class on how to speak, how to cross your legs, how to behave in a real way. There was none of that training that could exist for other members of the family. That was not something that was offered to me,” Markle explained to Winfrey.
She added that it was the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, who taught her to bow before meeting Her Majesty for the first time.
