A raging maskless man pulled out a replica gun at a kebab shop after getting into a brawl with the staff about wearing a face mask inside.

Paul Griffiths, 57, was requested to wait outside by the staff as he was not wearing the face mask.

He then pulled out a paintball gun from his pocket and pointed it at people inside the takeaway in the village of Pentre, south Wales.

One of the customers and a delivery driver dived behind the counter, fearing for their lives.

The driver warned people to lock the doors and ran out of the back of the shop to frantically call police.

Police bodycam footage then shows armed officers arriving and ordering Griffiths to walk backwards out of the shop with his hands in the air.

While being handcuffed, officers are heard telling Griffiths they were responding to reports of a man with a weapon, to which he replies:

No, I’ve got a paintball gun on me.

A warrant was then obtained to search Griffiths’ home nearby, and it was discovered he was hiding a cannabis factory.

Griffiths was jailed for 20 months last month after pleading guilty to cannabis production and possessing an imitation firearm in a public place with intent to cause fear of violence.

Detective Constable Lucy Robins said:

Griffiths’ actions that night were plain stupid and reckless.

The people inside the shop that night genuinely feared for their lives.

I would like to praise the actions of the owner who acted calmly and put the safety of others first by trying to keep the man inside the shop.

The delivery driver raised the alarm quickly which ensured our armed officers were on the scene in minutes while he was still at the scene.
