During a shooting in a North Carolina nightclub, a pregnant US Navy veteran was killed by a stray bullet.
It was around 1.30 am on Dec26 when Precious Vernetta Dyer, a 28-year-old expectant mother, was tragically shot at Wilson, North Carolina’s Evolution Music Hall.
A dispute broke out during the Christmas celebration, resulting in a gunfight, with police claiming Ms Dyer was not engaged in the row or the shooting.
She was an “innocent patron at the event,” according to the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim, a seven-year veteran of the US Navy, was pronounced dead at the site.
The police have requested the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the shooter’s arrest due to the enormous number of people who attended the event.
“It’s been terrible,” her mother, Tijuana Locus, said, “I know that Christmas will never be the same.
“Someone knows who did it. Tell, call. If it was your daughter… you’d like to know who shot them, who took their life.”
The mother said she learned about the shooting at the club on Facebook and began sending messages to her daughter, who she knew was there.
She said: “I was sending her messages via Facebook, and she was not answering me. That’s what made me upset and nervous.”
She was then informed that her daughter had been shot, and while driving to the hospital, she received a call from the police informing her that she had died.
Dyer’s death has left the family stunned, she said, describing her daughter as “adventurous” and disclosing that she enjoyed hang gliding.
In January 2022, the victim intended to marry her fiancé, the father of her unborn child.
The investigation is still underway.
