The 24-year-old tenant Patrick Maher who allegedly killed the couple was taken into police custody. The intention behind the crime has not been revealed yet.
Troy Varney who was 52 and his wife Dulsie Varney, 48 were immediately taken into the hospital after they were found in critical condition by the police. However, the couple succumbed to injuries. Reportedly, even though Troy Varney was fatally injured, he tussled with Patrick and caught hold of him until the police arrived.
As reported by the local media, the tenant “ambushed” the couple inside the home. A family member also stated of Dulsie being fearful of Patrick, while Patrick’s relative talked about finding him depressed during the pandemic and behaving strangely.
The couple had two daughters, one of which found the parents in a traumatic condition inside the home, and called the police right away. Apparently, the couple was stabbed multiple times. There’s no clarity whether they were shot as well.
Patrick Maher was charged for double-homicide and is held inmate in Androscoggin County Jail and is not eligible for bail. There is no confirmation if Patrick has a lawyer to speak for him
Varney’s friends and relatives are grieving over the nightmarish loss. There are reports about the neighbors referring to the couple as giving and kind.
