An “unknown phenomena” shakes Clarksville

Several Montgomery County agencies spent hours investigating an “unknown phenomena” that included claims of a loud explosion and the earth trembling.

Clarksville police said that the 911 Dispatch Center got many complaints regarding a “loud explosion” heard at 9:50 p.m. Saturday. Several callers stated that they, too, felt the ground quake.

The calls came from all around Montgomery County, but according to law enforcement, no damage had been reported.

Police said officers spent hours searching for the source alongside the city’s fire department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Emergency Medical Service.

According to the US Geological Survey “did not register an earthquake in the area”, and that with Fort Campbell – a US Army base located near Clarksville – being on a four-day weekend because of the Labor Day holiday, “it did not appear to be [caused by] training or an exercise”.

The incident has been described by Clarksville police as “some sort of unknown phenomena”.
