A woman shot dead a man after he refused to kiss her during an alcohol-fuelled night, it has been claimed.
The mum-of-three from the US state of Illinois was out with the man and his girlfriend in their apartment in Rolling Meadows, when the night turned deadly, authorities say.
Cook County prosecutors said shooting suspect Claudia Resendiz-Flores and the couple had been out drinking when Resendiz-Flores asked James Jones for a kiss.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that he refused and asked his girlfriend for a kiss instead. It is alleged that she then became jealous and asked Mr Jones again, but he continued to say no.
She then allegedly took Mr Jones’ gun from where it was stashed between couch cushions, and aimed it towards him.
Prosecutors claim that the man then tried to push the gun down after he saw the woman’s finger on the trigger and watched her take the safety off.
She is then alleged to have lifted her arms before shooting him once in the chest, killing him.
The man’s girlfriend is then said to have called police and responding officers found the handgun in the living room.
In a statement Rolling Meadows Police Department said officers responded at 9.44pm on October 14 to The Preserve at Woodfield apartment complex to a report of a gunshot.
Police said: “Once on scene, the officers were able to locate a male victim, James P. Jones, 29 years of age, who had been shot in the chest, and was later pronounced dead.
“Claudia Resendiz-Florez was identified as the shooter and taken into custody. A witness has been cooperating with this investigation and the scene was processed for evidence. At this time, it appears that this is an isolated incident with no threat to the general public.
“Claudia Resendiz-Flores has been charged with 1st degree murder and was transported to Central Bond Court (26th & California) for a bond hearing.”
Resendiz-Flores allegedly admitted to shooting Jones and was subsequently charged with first-degree murder.
