“I know it’s very hard for the British people to try and forgive me” – says ISIS bride Shamima Begum

Shamima Begum – the ISIS bride, came on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday and chatted with Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid about her current position.

In her first live television interview, the now 21-year-old looked quite different, dressed in Western attire, with her hair exposed and her nails painted red.

Shamima responded to Susanna’s question on why the British public should forgive her:

“Because I made a mistake at a very young age, most young people don’t know what they want to do with their lives.

“I know it’s very hard for the British people to try and forgive me.”

When Susanna went on to call ISIS a “death cult,” Shamima insisted that she had no idea how horrible ISIS was.

“I thought it was an Islamic community,” she said, before continuing: “I think yes I was groomed and taken advantage of.

“I did not know that there was war… well I did know there was a war, but not where women and children were living. I did not know that ISIS were trying to take over the world.

“The reason I came to Syria was not for any violent reasons, I did not want to hurt anyone in Syria or anywhere else in the world,” she added.

When asked why she had decided to remain with ISIS, she stated:

“Because it was not possible to leave at all, you had to find connections.

“My husband, after he came out of prison, he was being watched very closely by ISIS. You also needed to have a lot of money and we didn’t have access to any.”

Shamima also said: “I would rather die than go back to ISIS.”

Susanna was eager to question Shamima about prior comments she had made concerning the Manchester attacks, as well as claims that she had seen ISIS members sewn into suicide bomber vests.

“You were seen sewing on the devices so that they could not be removed without being detonated,” Susanna remarked.

“No, I did not do this, this thing I have been accused of. I think people are making these things up just to make me look bad,” Shamima replied.

“They have to keep feeding the media with stories to remind people why they hate me. These accusations have been leaked to the media, it was created for the media, not for the Government.

“The only crime I think I committed was being dumb enough to come to Syria, but even that can be refuted because I was 15.”

When asked if she had a message for Prime Minister Boris Johnson, she replied:

“I want to say that you are clearly struggling with extremism and terrorism in your country and I want to help with that.

“I think I could very much help you with your fight against terrorism because you clearly don’t know what you’re doing.”
