Explosions in the capital began at 4 am. The wreckage of a downed enemy aircraft fell into a residential building.

In Kiev on the morning of Friday, February 25, an air raid alert was announced, the Kyiv City State Administration reports.

“Attention! An air alert has been declared! Immediately head to the nearest shelter!”, the message says.

Explosions have been heard in Ukraine’s capital, sparking fears Russia has taken the city under siege.

The blasts were heard across the city with footage showing the sky lit up by the Russian attacks.

A residential building was struck after an aircraft was reportedly shot down and crashed into it, according to reports.

It comes as Ukraine’s president confirmed the conflict has so far killed 137 people in Ukraine as missiles continue to rain down after troops captured Chernobyl.

Missiles were launched at airports and military bases as attack helicopters soared above the capital Kyiv – with reports of 60,000 Russian troops now in Ukraine.

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced in a video address that the city of Kyiv had been entered by Russian forces.

He said: “We have information that enemy sabotage groups have entered Kyiv.

“Therefore, I urge Kyiv residents to be careful and follow the curfew rules.”

Boris Johnson earlier said the Putin regime would be condemned to “pariah status” after unleashing a “tidal wave of violence” against Ukraine.
