The Federal Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media Bitkom has found in a representative survey with more than 900 children and adolescents between six and 18 years, which devices are no longer known to the Digital Natives, because they are too old.

All children from 6 to 18 years old are considered Digital Natives. The opposite to this term are the “digital immigrants“. This in turn are all people who are older than 18 years and are therefore not grown up with all newfangled technologies.

28 percent of respondents said they did not know a fax machine. In 1974, the first device of this type came onto the market, with which the transfer of one or more documents in the form of an image was possible.

The dial phone does not know 32 percent of digital natives. Today, the phones are – if anything – only used by lovers of outdated technology.

In fourth place is the Walkman. 49 percent of the children surveyed said they did not know this device. The Walkman was with the playing of tapes the forerunner of the discman, who could finally play CDs.
