Famous actor dies at 37 while skiing in the Alps

Gaspard Ulliel, a French actor, was hospitalized Tuesday following an accident in the Savoie region’s Rosiere ski area, according to the Savoie prosecutor’s office.

Gaspard Ulliel, a French actor known for his performances in Chanel perfume advertisements as well as film and television roles, died Wednesday in a skiing accident in the Alps, according to his agent’s office. He was 37 years old.

Ulliel starred as a young Hannibal Lecter in the 2007 film “Hannibal Rising” and as Yves Saint Laurent in the 2014 biography “Saint Laurent.” He is also in the new Marvel movie “Moon Knight,” and he was the face of the Bleu de Chanel fragrance for men.

Ulliel was taken to the hospital following the accident in the Savoie region’s Rosiere ski slope on Tuesday, according to the Savoie prosecutor’s office. Ulliel died on Wednesday, according to the actor’s agent’s office. It did not disclose any other information.

According to local radio France Bleu, he was taken to the hospital with a skull injury after colliding with another skier at a slope crossing point. According to France Bleu, the other skier was not sent to the hospital. The accident was not discussed in depth by police or prosecutors.

As the snow has solidified, the mountain police unit that serves the accident site said it has been leading five or six rescues every day in recent days.

A skier collided with a 5-year-old girl in the adjacent Haute-Savoie region on Saturday, killing her. According to the prosecutor in Haute-Savoie, the man was charged with preliminary manslaughter, citing high speed as the likely cause of the tragedy.
