James Michael Tyler made a clear appeal to all men in June: When you next visit your doctor, have a so-called PSA test for signs of prostate cancer. The actor himself had only been diagnosed with the disease at an advanced stage.

James Michael Tyler has been battling prostate cancer for several years. He passed away at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 59.

As his manager announced, he died peacefully in his home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning.

“Tyler passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles on Sunday morning,” his manager said in a statement

“If you met him once you made a friend for life,” it added. “[He] is survived by his wife, Jennifer Carno, the love of his life.”

His family says … “The world knew him as Gunther (the seventh “Friend”), from the hit series “Friends,” but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband.”

The family further added: “Michael loved live music, cheering on his Clemson Tigers, and would often find himself in fun and unplanned adventures. If you met him once you made a friend for life.”

Paying tribute to Tyler, Aniston wrote on her Instagram page: “Friends would not have been the same without you. Thank you for the laughter you brought to the show and to all of our lives. You will be so missed.”

Aniston also shared a clip from the final episode, where Gunther finally declares his love for Rachel.
