High blood pressure, often known as hypertension, is deeply linked to negative health outcomes, but millions of people in the United States are unaware that their readings are abnormally high. Poor lifestyle choices are commonly recognized as the cause of the illness. Common dietary supplements, on the other hand, can sometimes cause high blood pressure, putting people at danger of mortality.

Blood pressure readings are a measurement of the force exerted against the arterial walls, and they might reveal a variety of health risks. As the pressure inside the veins rises, it produces an environment favourable to the formation of blood clots. Smoking and drinking are two well-known unhealthy lifestyle choices that contribute to the disease. Supplements can occasionally induce dangerously high blood pressure, putting you at risk of death.

Green tea extract and Yohimbe, according to Consumer Reports, are two supplements associated to an increase in blood pressure.

The plant extract is linked to dizziness, ringing in the ears, poor iron absorption, raised blood pressure and heart rate, liver damage, and possibly death, according to the health organization.

Yohimbe supplement elevates blood pressure, causes headaches, seizures, liver and renal problems, heart problems, panic attacks, and perhaps death, according to the health body.

Yohimbe is a popular weight-loss supplement and treatment for erectile dysfunction, but its side effects are less well-known.

According to Harvard Health: “Lesser known is the fact that Yohimbe can have harmful effects, including high blood pressure anxiety, racing heartbeat, and headaches.

“At high doses, purified yohimbine can cause heart failure or death.”

The health organization references a research published in Drug Testing and Analysis that found pharmaceutical-grade yohimbine extracts in a number of commercially available yohimbine products.

The proof was discovered following a review of 49 common brands of yohimbine pills offered in major American retailers.

“The products tested appeared to contain a highly concentrated form of yohimbine that does not occur in nature,” Harvard Health explained.

“That means these so-called natural supplement products are anything but natural – or safe.”

Green tea supplements, which have been discovered to contain larger quantities of catechins (antioxidants) than infusions, pose similar dangers at higher doses.

It has been found that epigallocatechin gallate, the primary catechin in green tea, has numerous health benefits at modest dosages.

The supplement, however, has a risk of liver damage at greater doses, and the safe level of catechins has yet to be discovered.

Separate health groups say that people should not take liquorice supplements because they can cause dangerously high blood pressure and low potassium levels if they take them.

“Liquorice contains glycyrrhizinic acid, which sets off a well-understood chain reaction of biochemical events in the body resulting in high blood pressure,” explained Doctor Christopher S. Baird, Assistant Professor of Physics at West Texas A&M University.

According to experts, the risks may be more pronounced for individuals over 40 who have a history of heart disease.

“Eating more than 57 grams of black liquorice a day for at least two weeks could lead to potentially serious health problems, such as an increase in blood pressure and irregular heart rhythm,” according to health experts.

The supplement is used for its powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, all of which have been linked to a variety of potential health advantages.

However, like with any supplements, taking the pill at the right dose is critical to avoid negative health effects.
