Cancer signs can be difficult to spot, but catching them early allows you to treat the disease before it spreads further. According to a pharmacist, there is one ‘persistent’ cancer warning sign.

Early detection is critical for cancer survival, but symptoms of the fatal disease can be difficult to recognize.

Many symptoms may be too mild – or perhaps non-existent – for you to notice until cancer has spread to other parts of the body.

The CDC recommends that we keep track of any unusual bodily changes and have them checked by a doctor. Picking them up quickly gives you a higher chance of preventing the sickness from spreading.

According to Abbas Kanani, a pharmacist at Chemist Click, one symptom that emerges consistently when you get up in the morning could be a sign of cancer.

Mr. Kanani says that waking up with a persistent sore throat and having it for more than two weeks with no signs of improvement is a clear indicator of malignancy.

A chronic cough, according to the pharmacist, could also be a key sign of the condition.

He said: “Smokers often wake up with a cough in the morning. However, a persistent cough for longer than two weeks should be checked out. Especially if you smoke.”

Fatigue is another symptom that appears in the morning and lasts throughout the day. Mr. Kanani stated that while feeling fatigued in the morning is natural, you should seek medical attention if you have “fatigue lasting throughout the day.”

He further added:

“If you wake up in the morning and the bed is wet or damp from sweat, this indicates that you could have been experiencing night sweats.

“Get this checked out with your GP, especially if night sweats are accompanied by fatigue, weight loss or bruising.”

What are the most common cancer symptoms and how can you lower your risk?

According to Cancer.org, the following are the general indications of cancer:

  • Swelling or lumps anywhere in the body
  • Fatigue or extreme tiredness that doesn’t get better with rest
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Eating problems such as not feeling hungry, trouble swallowing, belly pain, or nausea and vomiting
  • Changes in your poo or pee

While there is no surefire way to avoid cancer, there are several things you can do to reduce your chances of having it.

Cancer Research Institute: “Not smoking is the biggest thing you can do to reduce your risk of cancer. Chemicals in cigarette smoke get in to our blood stream and can cause damage around the body. If you smoke, the best thing you can do for your health is quit.”

Similarly, according to the organization, drinking less alcohol lowers the risk of cancer.
