An unusual Omircon Symptom may signal you're infected, although rapid flow tests may miss it

There is currently no definitive list of coronavirus symptoms that takes into account the virus’s changing symptoms as it evolves, so you may already be experiencing symptoms.

Eye problems, earaches, muscle aches, and meal skipping have all been reported, except the official list of Omicron symptoms.

After changing from the original coronavirus, the mutant is affecting patients differently and affecting new regions of the body.

Multiple studies have shown that Omicron is less severe in those who have been vaccinated against other strains, and that the Covid booster vaccine offers protection against it.

An specialist has warned that positive cases may be missed as a result of swabs failing to detect Omicron in some people.

According to Professor Tim Spector of the ZOE Covid Symptom Study, the variant may be settling in the belly rather than the nose.

This means that if someone is infected and has gut symptoms like an upset stomach, they will test negative since no traces of Omicron will be found in the nose or mouth.

“We know that the virus tries to enter the mouth or nose, and shows up in the respiratory system or the lungs,” the professor said.

“And it sometimes goes into the gut and people who have long Covid – they’ve found traces of the virus in the gut that can last a long time.

“We know that this virus travels to different parts of the body.

“It’s possible that Omicron or another variant is attacking the gut.

“And this would not be showing in the nose – so you could have a gut infection but not show up as positive.

“We could be missing quite a few cases simply by swabbing the nose.”

A gut infection can cause the following symptoms:

  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Heartburn
  • Bloating

The US CDC has also listed diarrhoea as a symptom of Omicron.

In the early stages of infection, those with a weakened immune system may also develop gastrointestinal symptoms.
