An unusual new symptom dubbed an ’emergency warning sign’ has been discovered by the US CDC.

The Omicron outbreak has brought a different set of symptoms to the attention of the world, some of which require immediate medical intervention.

A new and persistent cough, a fever, and shortness of breath were previously the three key Covid symptoms to watch out for.

Now, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has detected a new symptom that is being described as an “emergency warning sign”.

The agency warns that people should be on the lookout for a new sense of confusion.

The CDC says that anyone who is experiencing this newfound sense of confusion should “seek medical care immediately”.

The confusion is referred to as delirium, and it might result in a change in your regular behavior. There are two types of delirium: hyperactive delirium and hypoactive delirium.

How to spot new confusion?

People who experience sudden changes in their behavior, where they may begin to act abnormally, are said to be suffering from hyperactive delirium.

Distress, hostility, and agitation are all possible outcomes.

Hypoactive delirium, on the other hand, is more difficult to detect and might cause people to become drowsy or less reactive than usual.

The symptom has been observed more frequently in older adults who have been infected with the virus.

According to reports, 15 percent of those aged 16 to 65 who have tested positive recently have reported experiencing delirium, while approximately 20 percent of persons aged 65 and beyond have reported experiencing it.

Of course, this is not the only symptom that people should be aware of; but, it is critical that people understand what this newly discovered indicator could signify.

The process of comprehending Omicron is still in its early stages.

In addition, the general people should be informed that delirium can be a symptom of a number of other medical disorders, including diabetes.

According to South African studies, the following are the most often observed symptoms of Omicron:

  • Scratchy throat
  • Mild muscle aches
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Night sweats
