We’ve made Instagram challenges a part of our daily routine. A new challenge that depicts a man eating raw meat in all of its forms is generating quite a stir in the health community.

We’ve already seen other harmful Instagram challenges, but this is by far the most unpleasant and unhealthy. A man has been eating raw meat for about three months (Raw Meat Challenge) as part of what he describes (perhaps humorously) as a quest to consume “raw meat every day until I die of bacteria.”

”While documenting the diet on his @rawmeatexperiment page, followed by close to 85,000 people, this man eats everything from a pound of raw ground bison meat to a raw cow brain, and then drinks (unpasteurized) milk and uncooked eggs. This man, who remains anonymous, praised the minced meat: “Without chewing you can actually just put the beef in your mouth and swallow it, quite tasty, half the cost of a steak.”

People were divided on the experiment, with some being repulsed by the concept and others fleeing when they realized what he was up to. He began the experiment after feeling ill despite eating a largely vegetarian diet, he said. He claimed that switching to a steak-and-eggs diet made him feel full and healthy for the majority of the day.

So, do you think this is a good idea? No!

He isn’t the first person to eat this manner, with the human lineage existing for millions of years before Homo erectus found fire and, later, cooking roughly a million and a half years ago. Humans, on the other hand, have evolved since then and have heated their food for thousands of years, allowing us to be more effective at eating and digesting food.

Humans are no longer meant to consume raw meat alone, and doing so can lead to a variety of health issues, even if you’re lucky enough not to get salmonella from eating raw meat.

A study released in 2014, for example, looked at the impact of protein in the diet on our health. The researchers looked at the individuals’ daily menus and separated them into groups based on how much protein they consumed. The data point to a statistical relationship between higher protein intake and a higher risk of cancer.

The man doesn’t appear to live solely on raw meat, as he eats various foods in between Instagram updates. Even so, he may become terribly unwell. So far, he claims, he hasn’t gotten food poisoning from eating meat that hasn’t been cooked, and he has avoided any bacteria that might be lurking in it.

If you’re still hesitant, remember that raw meat could carry salmonella, E. coli, listeria, and other deadly bacteria.

Handling raw meat, let alone eating it, can be risky, especially in the summer, especially for those who are scared of infections or are particularly prone to diseases, such as kids and pregnant women. This type of food poisoning causes vomiting, diarrhea, and the possibility of death.
