Elderly people with a range of chronic diseases may not survive the coronavirus after being vaccinated. However, among the unvaccinated, this chance is still higher.
A study published on Wednesday in Italy found that people who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 are highly unlikely to die from the disease unless they are very old and already severely unwell before contracting it.
According to the National Health Institute’s (ISS) study, which was included in a regular ISS report on COVID-19 mortality, the average age of persons who died despite being vaccinated was 85. They had five underlying diseases on average.
The average age of the deceased among unvaccinated was 78 years with four pre-existing diseases.
The study analyzed 671 deaths of unvaccinated people and 171 deaths of fully vaccinated people from February 1 to October 5, 2021.
During this time, 38,000 people died throughout the country, of which 33,600 were not vaccinated, 2 130 received one dose of vaccination or became infected soon after vaccination, when antibodies had not yet had time to develop, and 1440 were fully vaccinated.
The study highlighted that vaccinated elderly people with a set of chronic diseases like heart problems, dementia and cancer are at risk of dying from COVID-19.
At the same time, the chance of surviving the disease among the vaccinated is still higher.
