US experts have named a product that will help dieters cope with the urge to eat sweets during the day.

Nutritionists believe that having an oatmeal breakfast is the best way to overcome sugar cravings.

Dietitian Trista Best believes that many traditional breakfast foods such as cereals with milk or pastries sold in cafes can increase daily sugar intake.

“A breakfast of sugar-laden cereal made with refined carbohydrates will fill you up quickly, but leave you hungry shortly after. This hunger is typically resolved by eating more carbohydrates or sweets.”

Additionally, “Refined carbohydrates found in common breakfast foods like pastries and biscuits are turned into sugar in the body and used for energy,” said Best as cited by Eat This, Not That!.

“While this is a normal process, they are processed so rapidly that they cause a glucose spike and a quick crash, which leads to increased cravings for sugar or carbohydrate-containing foods.”

Dr. Lisa Young, the author of Finally Full, Finally Slim and a member of our medical expert board, agreed with the colleague and said that the best way to fight the craving for sweets is to eat oatmeal for breakfast every day.

“The soluble fiber found in steel-cut outs keeps your blood sugar steady to reduce cravings,” said Young.

She added that excess protein and fat can reduce the desire to eat something sweet, so you should add low-fat milk to oatmeal, flax seeds and berries.
