This feeling may hint you have Vitamin D deficiency

Vitamin D is essential for controlling calcium and phosphate levels in the body. This, in turn, helps to maintain the health of your bones, teeth, and muscles. Here’s how to tell whether you’re deficient in this vital nutrient, including a warning sign in your mood.

Vitamin D, also known as “sunshine,” is a fat-soluble vitamin. Your body may manufacture this vitamin from direct sunshine throughout the summer months. Due to the lack of sunlight in the winters, you may want to consider additional vitamin D sources.

Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from food.

After that, the trio assists in maintaining the health and strength of your bones, teeth, and muscles.

And this isn’t the sole function of “sunshine” vitamins in your body.

Your mood also depends on this vitamin and it is one of the warning signs of vitamin D deficiency, which can be helpful in identifying the condition early on.

Mood swings and depression are two typical symptoms, according to Cleveland Clinic.

According to the journal Current Drug Targets, experts have discovered that individuals who are depressed also have low amounts of vitamin D.

A few modest studies published in the National Library of Medicine show that vitamin D supplementation can help some patients with depression.

However, a larger study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association found no link between depression and the vitamin.

Mood swings and depression aren’t the only signs of vitamin D deficiency, however.

Other symptoms include:

  • Tiredness
  • Bone pain
  • Muscle weakness
  • Muscle aches
  • Muscle cramps.
