In Hong Kong, a man was set on fire during protests

An unknown man set fire to a man in Hong Kong during a protest over a national dispute in Hong Kong, the Associated Press reported on Monday.

A video was published on the Internet in which a group of people engage in a lively debate, after which they poured the flammable liquid onto one of the men and set it on fire. Immediately after the incident, the man was taken to the hospital. Now he is in critical condition.

The AP does not report whether anyone was detained in connection with the incident.

On Monday, police opened fire, trying to disperse protesters who blocked roads in the morning and interfered with the operation of the transport system. One of the protesters was seriously injured, according to Hong Kong media.

In Hong Kong, protests have been ongoing for about five months now. The reason was the intention of the city authorities to amend the extradition law, which would allow expelling suspected criminals to countries that do not have an agreement with Hong Kong, including mainland China.

In connection with the protests, the adoption of these amendments was postponed and then cancelled. However, the protests, which are accompanied by clashes between demonstrators and the police, continue with new requirements, in particular, the introduction of a system of direct election management in the administrative district.
