Telegram develops a new feature that will allow users to move chat history from other messaging apps, such as WhatsApp.

Telegram update 7.4 for iOS allows users to import chats from other messaging applications, such as WhatsApp, Line, and KakaoTalk, as described in the updated version in the App Store.

However, Telegram has retired the feature as soon as it was released and has now released a new version 7.4.1 that does not have the option to move the chat history. The feature is apparently under development and did not work properly.

It is noted that WhatsApp users can access the feature by going to the More menu in a chat and then choosing the Export chat option. WhatsApp will generate a ZIP file with all the conversation that can be exported to Telegram.

In turn, Telegram will also ask users to which contact or group they want to move the chat and from there the messages will be moved. Telegram will classify these chats as imported.

In addition, the new update also offers more privacy, as well as new functions such as volume adjustment in voice chats.

“Delete messages, groups you have created, secret chats and call history from all parties, without leaving a trace (…) Report fake groups or channels posing as famous people or organizations”, adds description of the update.

Since WhatsApp announced in early January that it would introduce changes to its privacy policy that would allow it to share some user data with Facebook, millions of people have moved to Telegram and other applications.

The new Telegram function could motivate users who do not want to lose their message history in other apps to opt for this service.

In mid-January, Telegram founder Pável Durov reported that more than 25 million users had joined the service within days of the WhatsApp announcement.
