In Pennsylvania, three children and seven adults died in a house fire, and a firefighter was devastated to discover that the dead were his own family.
Six of the victims’ names have been confirmed by Pennsylvania State Police, but the youngest children, aged five, six, and seven, have not yet been identified.
A criminal inquiry has been initiated into the source of the fire.
The porch is where the fire is believed to have started early on Friday.
Firefighter Harold Baker of the Nescopeck Volunteer Fire Company informed the Associated Press that his son, daughter, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, three grandchildren, and two other relatives were among the victims.
The two boys and the girl who died, according to him, did not reside at the house and were only there for summertime activities.
Dale Baker, 19, Star Baker, 22, David Daubert Sr., 79, Shannon Daubert, 42, Laura Daubert, 47, and Marian Slusser, 54, are the victims, according to state police.
Dale Baker, according to Harold Baker, followed in his father’s footsteps by joining the fire department.
Police say that their sniffer dogs helped them find the bodies in the wrecked building. According to a police report, three adults succeeded in getting away and finding safety.
Around 2:30 local time, the fire started in the little town of Nescopeck, which is located 150 kilometers (95 miles) northwest of Philadelphia (06:30 GMT).
According to Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Derek Felsman, on Friday, “Firefighters attempted courageous efforts to make entry into the house in the rear, but were pushed back from extensive flames and heat.”

During an interview with WNEP-TV, he said: “The kids that were there and my two kids were just visiting their aunt and uncle.
“Those were the ones who own the house. They were there visiting and going into the pool and all that.”
On Twitter, Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said he was “heartbroken” by what happened.
According to CNN, the American Red Cross is responding and supporting individuals who have been affected.
