The president of the New York district of Brooklyn and former chief of the New York Police, Eric Adams, has won this Tuesday in the Democratic primaries for the mayor of the US city by declaring the provisional results.
“I am honored to be the Democratic candidate for mayor of the city that I have always called home,” said Adams on his Twitter account.

Adams, the favourite in this process, has received 50.5 per cent of the votes after eight rounds of playoffs, while former City Health Commissioner Kathryn García has obtained 49.5 per cent, according to Bloomberg.
The former police chief was already leading the results on the day of the vote on June 23, but the voting system has delayed the declaration of the provisional results until this Tuesday after the scrutiny of the vote by mail. The final results are expected to be known next week.
For their part, Republicans have chosen Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, a crime prevention group, over restaurateur Fernando Mateo.
