Violations of these new measures will be subject to fines of between €2,000 and €5,000 and seven-day or definitive closure orders.

The Greek authorities have announced new restrictions on nightlife spaces on Tuesday after the increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

The measures, which will begin to be applied as of next Thursday, imply that customers of bars and clubs will only be able to be seated in these spaces with a certain capacity.

The numbers of infections have doubled in Greece, especially affecting the young population, since while last week around 600 new cases of the disease were registered, this Tuesday the Greek health authority has reported 1,797 new infections in the last 24 hours.

The head of Civil Protection of Greece, Nikos Chardalias, has remarked that “the average age of the positives is 27 years” as well as that “hundreds of cases related to leisure establishments have been registered.”

Likewise, Chardalias has indicated that infractions of these new measures will be subject to sanctions such as fines of €2,000 and €5,000 and seven-day or definitive closure orders.
