On Saturday evening about 7:20 p.m., the North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a report of a plane crash in Alexander County.

Troopers and emergency personnel arrived near US-64 in the Smith Farm Road area and discovered a single-engine plane that had crashed in the woods.

With non-life-threatening injuries, the two injured occupants were transferred to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Troopers alerted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and secured the area overnight until the FAA arrived at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
