Texas health officials reported Monday that they had reported the first death linked to the omicron COVID-19 strain.

This is believed to be the first known reported omicron death in the United States.

Officials from Harris County Health said the victim was “a man in his 50s” who was unvaccinated and had underlying health issues.

Although public health officials do not believe omicron is more virulent than previous variants, they do believe that vaccination and a booster shot when eligible appear to reduce your risk of severe illness.

Due to rising cases in Wisconsin and Indiana, more military personals are being deployed to hospitals

To help fight the mounting COVID-19 cases, the military is deploying two teams to hospitals in WI and IN.

The 20-member teams are comprised of nurses, respiratory therapists, and US Navy medical experts.

According to a US Army North spokeswoman, they will begin supporting Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on Christmas Day and Bellin Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin on New Year’s Eve.

Ten more military teams have been sent to hospitals in five different states.
