The Polish president approved a bill restricting the import of Russian coal into the country and transit via its territory.

On April 14, Polish President Andrzej Duda approved a law prohibiting the import of Russian coal and allowing the freezing of the assets of individuals who backed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The Polish president’s press service confirmed this.

According to the information note to the law on special decisions in the domain of opposing support for aggression against Ukraine and maintaining national security, the document forbids the import of coal from the Russian Federation or Belarus into Poland and transit through its territory.

Sanctions can also be imposed under the law against those individuals or organizations who, among other things, fail to comply with the EU rules’ obligations to freeze funds or economic resources, fail to promptly provide information as required, or engage in activities with the intent of evading the measures specified in the regulations.
