UAE intercepts two missiles fired by Houthi militias

As reported by the UAE Ministry of Defense, the UAE intercepted two ballistic missiles fired by Huthis militants on Monday that were directed towards the Gulf country.

This is the second incident on UAE soil since last week’s extraordinary drone attack on fuel storage tanks and a construction zone at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which killed three people and injured six more.

According to WAM, the missile fragments fell harmlessly over the capital, Abu Dhabi, and the UAE “is prepared and ready to face any threat and will take all necessary measures to protect the State from all attacks,” according to the Ministry of Defense.

On Saturday, an international coalition led by Saudi Arabia allegedly bombed a jail in the Yemeni province of Saada, killing 82 people and injuring 266 others, according to the Houthis government’s Ministry of Health. The Houthis had pledged to retaliate against the UAE and Saudi Arabia for the strikes.

The internationally recognized government of Yemen, led by Abdo Rabbu Mansur Hadi and backed by an international coalition led by Saudi Arabia, of which the UAE is a member, is at odds with the Huthis, who are backed by Iran.

The rebels hold the capital as well as other parts in the country’s north and west. Despite international mediation attempts, the primary fighting in a war that has generated the world’s biggest humanitarian disaster is currently centered in the province of Marib.
